Meet Poonam Thimmaiah– Founder of MAALICIOUS Jewelry. The dynamic entrepreneur “Turning adversity into opportunity.”
Maalicious was born as a pet project conceived at home in New York while mending a broken heart caused by a miscarriage in her 36th week of pregnancy. As they say, she took her broken heart and turned it into art and this kept her going during those dark times.
She partnered with differently-abled students studying jewellery in Mysuru, India on her visit to India a few weeks later and eventually worked with various women artisans to integrate various Indian art forms into her jewellery. A lot of research, learning, sweat and blood later, Maalicious has grown into a well reputed jewelry brand in the States.
About the Label
Maalicious Jewelry works with women artisans in India to create unique, statement pieces that have dipped in culture and tell a story from the past. Designed in New York City, our pieces are handmade using traditional art forms and are 24k gold plated.
We have had some amazing moments in the last few years including being featured in British Vogue, Harper’s BAZAAR Thailand, Elle, Marie Claire, Indian Express and more. We retail at Flying Solo, Verishop, Project Gaia and NDNY in New York. We have showcased our pieces in New York fashion week and Paris fashion week.
